"If It's Not One Thing, It's Your Mother" -not Freud
Just kidding.... kinda
All jokes aside, I understand and deeply respect how difficult it can be to reach out and participate in therapy. I'm so glad you're here. You may be feeling lost and are unable to connect with yourself while going through a change or transition. Maybe you think "there's something wrong with me". Perhaps, you've never been to therapy before and are hesitant and nervous envisioning yourself laying on a couch while being analyzed by a very serious therapist wearing a cardigan. There is some truth there, in that there is a couch and I'm likely to be wearing a cardigan.
I believe that our suffering is caused by disconnection; disconnection from ourselves, our bodies, from others, and at times from life in general. At some point, something happened that created a disconnect along the way. Oftentimes in infancy and childhood, hence the opening joke. It's not about blaming our parents, it's about understanding how early childhood experiences shape our beliefs and worldview. Therapy is hard but we can make the most of it and sometimes we might have fun.
